Title says all, my friend knows someone with a hybrid car that put normal gas in and the engine melted. I was wondering if it was plastic since the gasoline would have melted the plastic.

  1. They have experimented with cast iron, aluminum, magnesium-alloy, and ceramic(like your coffee mug) for engine blocks, can't see why plastics would be an exception.  And gasoline melting plastic over heat?  You need to get better plastic.  A "baggie" will not dissolve in gasoline, nor a Glad bag, nor your plastic Jerry can.  But they will melt if you heat them.

And there is plastic, like what is on your frying pan handle that takes the heat just fine(won't melt, burn, get soft, or other)And that is an OLD plastic formula.

  2. Your friend is fooling you all engines in the world are made on metals like aluminum or steel.

  3. they are pulling your leg.  A hybrid has a normal engine made of metal. Beside, why didn't the gasoline melt the plastic tank the gasoline was in?

  4. That story is BS. Hybrids use regular engines to charge large batteries to help run the car, that's all.

A car that can run on ethanol (or an FFV, Flex Fuel Vehicle) is a gasoline engine that has been set up so that it can also use a blend of gasoline and ethanol called E85.

Both use gasoline engines made of either steel or aluminum.

Either you miss-heard or this person has no idea what they are talking about.
