  1. You should either paint, tile, or paint and tile, never wallpaper.

  2. Wall paper in the kithen sounds awful.  Get a good surface by careful sanding and paint it.

  3. Yes but you need to watch for the humidity in the kitchen. Also condensation can peel the paper from the wall.

  4. use what you like, just use kitchen and bathroom paint to finish, alternatively, tile from top to bottom all round! it's clean, hygienic, very low maintenance, and you don't have to redecorate every 2-5 years, maybe renew the grout now and again.

  5. Wallpapers that are called "kitchen" usually look really corny to me with lots of fruits and veggies on them! The same with kitchen curtains! Yuk! Use anything you like.

  6. In a nut shell--no you do not. I always use wallpaper in my kitchen and in my bathroom. I've had it hung by a professional and never had a problem.  The other rooms I paint. I've used a stripe in my kitchen and bath. I've also used a plaid in my kitchen. It was gorgeous and I got a lot of complements. Think out of the box when it comes to kitchen wallpaper. Don't think fruit as it will look to old fashion.

  7. Vinyl (kitchen and bathroom wallpapers) are a bit of a commercial anomaly. Vinyl is waterproof . . . OK I can grasp that, but it's the edges which steam and condensation attack if they are going to, and edges on vinyl are just as susceptible to peel as regular wall papers (believe me I've been there and done that). Use a regular paper and make sure you apply a healthy and even coating of paste and you should be fine. Another tip is to seal the tops and bottoms with decorating caulk (look it up). Another thing against vinyl is that it is horrible to the touch. Good luck with things and am sure your kitchen will be a delight after you have completed.

  8. Kitchens can be a cheerful and attractive place to be with your family-make it comfortable and attractive according to your taste.

  9. If you papered in a kitchen you would normally put up a vinyl paper to resist the condensation and cooking fumes etc.

You could use a normal wallpaper if you sealed it afterwards with something like Polyvine Decorators varnish, which comes in a flat, satin or gloss finish.  It looks like milk, dries clear and is the easiest thing in the world to apply.
