Ok the back of my Surround sound Reciever, it has these 6 (5.1Dolby) outlets.

(Shown here)

Right now my dvd player only has the 2 Channel (L,R)...

So does that mean right now i'm only getting (L,R) sound? and not the real Dolby 5.1 Surround?

Do i have to buy a DVD player with the dolby 5.1 (6 outlets) ?

  1. The 6 RCA connectors on your 5.1 receiver (and the link you provided isn't a help since it doesn't show the receiver, only the speakers)are for discrete analog surround from SACD or DVD-A players. This type of universal player is more expensive, but will certainly provide surround sound from SACDs and DVD-A (but your current DVD player doesn't have matching connectors).

Does your receiver have an orange RCA jack (digital coaxial)? Or an optical port (square, black)?  If so, and you have a similar jack on your DVD player you can get surround sound.

If the receiver has, but the DVD player has not, you should trade your DVD player for one with decoders for Dolby Digital/DTS and an optical or coax output, buy a suitable cable, and enjoy.

If neither receiver or DVD player have optical or coax connections you are basically out of luck.

    Hope this helps.

  2. Does your receiver say anything about "Dolby Digital" or "DTS" on the front?  You also want to look at the back and see if you have any Fiber Optic or Digital Coax as inputs.

From the sound of it, you may have a Dolby Pro Logic Receiver,  which is not capable of 5.1 surround sound.  You might of purchased what was called a "Dolby Digital Ready" receiver.

If you can post the model number, that would greatly assist!
