i've seen these tortilla chips with flaxseed in it, (whole it looks like), but I've seen someone say that the seeds need to be ground to get the full effect. Is this correct? or can i still eat whole flax seeds and get the benefit. Thanks.

  1. It's very good for you.

    Flaxseed has Omega-3 and Omega-6 fatty acids that actually help to draw fat out of your veins and arteries.

    Flax=Healthy hearts!

    However, if flax is whole or not ground/cracked, they're not as easily digestable and may not have as much of an effect as the latter.

    But they are very good for you either way! They alsp help with digestion.

  2. yes, flaxseed is really good for you, i just am not sure why...sorry.

  3. Something is better than nothing - so there is a benefit.

    It is true that you get more from the ground flax seed - but you do indeed get nutrition from whole as well (similar question asked about this recently - should be in the history of 'asked questions' I would think).

    The corn chips that I just got that have flax in them are partially ground - not fine - but a rough cut.  My thought while making the choice was based upon what I know about flax and the benefit of in-taking such within my diet.  Also that it is a great source of fiber and vitamins - most in western civilized countries don't get enough fiber within their diet because many don't eat whole grain breads, pastas, etc.

    Most focus upon the oil alone which is indeed very good for you.  It also has a very short shelf life and can go rancid quickly even when refrigerated.  Whole flax seed keeps longer even if you have to keep it in a cool and dry place - unless you grind it, then it needs to be treated the same as the oil.

    The choice is yours.  I bought some to see what they tasted like.  :)

  4. Whole flaxseeds are good for you but because of the hard coating you don't get the same effect as taking the oil.

    But the whole flaxseed increases the fiber content of the chips and that is good too.

  5. Whole flaxseeds are beneficial to your health.  Whole flax is just as good as the ground, but the ground flax can be used (mixed with water) in baking as an egg substitute, while whole cannot.
