  1. The spice gets processed by your stomach before it ever hits your breast milk.  It's less likely that the spice will upset them and more likely that an ingredient within the food might not sit well with them.  Women in India don't stop eating curry...women in Mexico still enjoy chili in their food.

  2. my mom craved spicy while she was pregnant with my oldest brother and me.  we turned out good...and a person above talked about the women in india and mexico...that's sooooo true!  enjoy your food now because that first month or two when baby is there...you wont have much time to sit and enjoy your food.

    aloha!

  3. yes...that is a pretty good thing to do while nursing

  4. It's Best if you do stay away from extremely spicy food, but it's not a compulsion. I never did I ate what ever I was before...All my three kids didn't have any problem at all...But do keep an eye on your baby if you see any stomach problems in the baby then try to avoid..

  5. Yes, you'll be miserble with heartburn.

  6. It never bothered me or my baby.  Eat what you like and enjoy!

  7. yes it will upset ur baby  stomach

  8. Good question.  I wondered about that myself back when I was pregnant and all through nursing period, because I absolutely love spicy food, especially Thai food and Japanese wasabi.  But my doc told me not to eat spicy food because everything I ate went to my baby, even the taste of certain foods the baby can kind of taste, too.  I noticed one time, when I ate some garlic in a Chinese dish, my daughter didn't like that taste at all and refused to drink it (now she's 8 years old and STILL hates garlic).  So I just took her advice and cut out spicy food until I stopped nursing.  I decided it was better to be safe than sorry later.  I would say eat what you enjoy and see how the baby responds.  If your baby doesn't like the taste or has a problem with it, he/she will let you know.

This is irrelevant to your question, but I have a theory, since women tend to have "cravings" during their pregnancy, that we crave whatever the baby craved, even though it's not a food we usually like to eat.  For example, my mom said she always craved spicy food when she was carrying me (she hates spicy food) and I grew up loving spicy food.  Yet with my younger brother, she always craved sweets (even though she doesn't have much of a sweet tooth) and my bro loves sweets.  When I carried my daughter, I always craved cheesecakes and Chinese roast duck wonton noodle bowls (neither are my favorites).....and those turned out to be my daughter's favorite foods.  Yet still, with my ex-husband's mother, she craved spicy burritos every day when she carried him....and spicy foods, especially burritos, are his favorite foods that he can eat for every meal daily.  Isn't that just fascinating and weird?  Did that ever happen to you?

  9. I would - everything goes through your milk to the baby and this could cause the baby to have stomach cramps or be sick
