Question:

Do i have Trichotillomania?

i seem to have an obsession with hair pulling. I'm not sure if it's Trichotillomania but i can't stop...I take tweezers and take the hair on my pubic area out. It’s not to look good, like why people get waxes there, because it actually looks terrible because I usually pull the skin out with the hair too. I can’t stop though! I can literally (and actually do) sit for a couple of hours just pulling my hair out down there…it’s becoming scary because it’s taking up so much of my time but I want to do it all the time…is this really Trichotillomania or am I overreacting?

Please, I don’t want any comments saying horrible or lame stuff, this is a thing that really concerns me

  1. Yes you have hun.

It's nothing to laugh at because it's uncontrollable and awful.

It's unusual to hear that someone does this with their pubic hair?  It's normally head, eyebrows or eyelashes.  This must be really painful, you poor thing.  You have my deepest sympathy as I am a sufferer too.

I have yet to speak to my Doctor so I would be hypocritical to tell you to do so.  It is up to you really whether you feel that you need help or not.  There is help out there if you want to.

    Good luck :D

  2. Yes it is trichotillimania.I pull my hair on my head and sometimes down there. It's SI not SH.I used to self injure. But believe it or not, pulling your hair is still self injury.Cutting is self injury. You don't have to be angry to do it.People aren't always angry when they self harm. But it'd be best if you would stop.Doing it can lead to going bald,I had a friend that also did it,and she did it unconsciously. It is still self injury.I try not to pull my hair as much. But pulling your hair down there is very painful. You're opening up the pours down there because you are pulling the hair from the skin.Pray to GOD about this.GOD can solve anything.I hope that I helped so GOD BLESS you!

  3. It's more self injury than self harm.

I know EXACTLY what you're going through with the trichotillomania, which is what you have. Trichotillomania (translating literally into hair-pulling mania) involves removing the hair obsessively from any part of the body. For me, its mainly the scalp, but occassionaly the pubic reason.

It sounds like your trich may be slightly more ocd or adhd related, although I know very few trichsters that do so due to obviuos stress.

try registering at www.trichotillomania.org. They've got loads of tips on there if you need any help as well as community support forums.

I feel for you, especially as I'm in the same boat.

  4. I used to pull my eyelashes out. I always did it when I was stressed and wanted to block something out. I never went to a doctor but I overcame it. I just had to keep stopping myself. Its not gone but its under control. I dont pick them anymore just the odd one if its hanging off or something. A good thing to do is write out a list of the days of the wk and tick them off for each day you don't pull any hair. Then at the end of the wk treat yourself to something. It's a good way to keep focused. Fight it everytime and write down that you will do that and keep that piece of paper with you coz i know how you can kind of get lost and go into a trance so keep it with you or stick it on your wall or something. if you find that you need to distract yourself in this way you could try doing a crossword or something like that where your concentration is focused besta luck

  5. Sweety. Yes, you have a compulsion and you are hurting yourself.  You are also spending a lot of time on this activity.

Please see a therapist who can help you overcome this compulsion and self hate...
