I was given a lawnmower. It states to only use unleaded fuel and has a seperate oil tank with dip/stick. I thought it would have to be a 4 stroke, but an old salesperson from Supercheap Auto said that if it has seperate oil it must be a 2 stroke! Which is it peoples???

  1. 4. I know of no 2 stroke lawnmowers that have separate oil ( that would be self mixing)  Salesperson is wrong.

Do you know the brand? Lawn Boy is about the only 2 stroke out there.

  2. 2-stroke mowers have warnings on the gas tank about mixing oil with gas. They also sound different whan running.

Don't confuse LUBE OIL with 2-stroke oil.

All engines have a lube oil cap/dip stick.

Your mower is a 4-stroke and the salesman wouldn't know a stroke if he had one.

  3. you have a 4 stroke engine ..just use normal unleaded petrol ...in a two stroke engine you add the oil to the petrol and the engine works on a totally different principal to a 4 stroke ..a two stroke engine does not have a dip stick as it has no oil reservoir
