  1. i was wondering the same thing the other day with my results,

and so i looked up the requirements on the cambridge website...

and unfortunately it said it is VERY unlikely that they would give an interview to anyone with less than 5 a* GCSEs.

But this was for applying for a law degree which is extrememly competitive, so other subjects may be slightly different.

It depends what you want to do- as if you wanted to do maths or science you'd probably stand more of a chance.

And GCSE results may not be as important to most other universities, but Oxbridge DEFINIATELY take them into account.

But- A level grades are more important of course when it comes to the decision to accept you or not... good Gcse grades get you an interview.

But don't worry about it- theres loads other universities that would accept you so long as you get aaa or aab at a level that are almost as good as, if not better in certain fields of study, than oxford or cambridge.

and well done in your results. :)

  2. Don't know i'm interested though, my results are similar

    3 A*'s R.e, and ItX2

7A's English, English Lit, History, Cit, 2XIt Science

    2B's Science and Maths

I'm doing the Ib though, not A levles, and I need 38-40 points equivalent to 7 A's at Alevel so.......... god knows lol.

  3. When I went to a conference with a person from Oxbridge they said that they looked more on potential in a person and said they would take various scenarios.

    For example:

    - You may not do well at GCSE but prosper at college and they could then see your abilities.

    - Also they said sometimes (rarely) they will take someone without good grades if they are circumstantial.

However when they spoke they said that although they don't look for people with these grades, they said most students at Oxbridge have 7+ A*s at GCSE.

  4. Hi

Yes you would have a chance.

Don't listen to the people who say GCSEs aren't taken into account - nowadays they are, especially for top unis like oxford/cambridge.

It might be alot of hard work, but with these results it would be possible to achieve As at A-level - just remember to pick the subjects you are best at.

And also remember that even if you don't get the grades required - its not the end of the world and you can still get into a good university

hope that helps and good luck!

    x

can anyone help with mine too please? thanks!

  5. you only post this question to SHOW OFF...

  6. Your G.C.S.E. results wouldn't be taken into account.  They are only interested in your A level results and your life experiences and hobbies.  Probably not too wise to spend too much time on here.

  7. i agree with the first person you only wrote this to show of

  8. gcses arent important compared to a levels so it depends if you do better in those

  9. Depends how well you do in your A levels (which needs to be extremely well). Why is everyone obsessed with Oxbridge? They're not the be all and end all, there are so many other good universities. I'd like to see Oxford or Cambridge take an average student and turn them into an excellent one. The output reflects the intake, everyone going in is extremely clever so obviously they're going to do well.
