Do i have a kidney problem?

I went to the doctors for a physical & i had to pee in a cup. My doctor called 2 days later & said i had blood in my pee. But the thing is i started my period the day after the pee test. I have to go again to the doctors office for him to check.

im only 14 years old, so what is happening? do i have a kidney problem?

  1. No way to know until you have another test. It could be a urinary tract infection, a kidney infection, or something else... but even if you have a kidney infection - no worries, most of the time, just like with a ut infection a few antibiotics should fix you right up. I assume everything else went fine in the physical - so don't borrow trouble and go take the test with an easy heart.

Probably not,  any abnormality in any test should be repeated.  In your case I would wait until your period is over, say 1 week, then pee again.There are several causes of blood in your urine and I believe you just stated yours.  You might have a bladder infection or perhaps passed a kidney stone.  It's always best to let the Dr. figure this out. Any abnormality is frightening, hang in there!

  3. The specimen could have been contaminated.  Tell your doctor what happened.  He will repeat the test.  There are also blood tests he will order to detect kidney problems.  Don't jump to conclusions.  Don't worry about it.  Just have the test repeated.
