fyi, i'm fourteen. ok, so lately when i run and do plyometrics half way in my feet start burning really badly. i don't have peeling skin or anything on my feet but they just burn sooo badly. i'm about due for a new pair of shoes and i don't know if it's just because of the hot weather my feet are burning, of if it's my shoes, or if it's athletes foot. HELP PLEASE! thanks. :)

  1. If your shoes are too tight, that might give youa  burning foot sensation.

You could go out and get a new pair, but try to use a foot fungus spray first, see if that does anything for it. You should use it anyway just to stave off the fungus.

This really REALLY works, although it's nasty- when you take your first shower in the morning, pee on your feet (if you have athlete's foot). The amonia in your urine will help kill the bacteria and keep it gone. Obviously you will wash your feet very well afterwards.

  2. Are your shoes breathable, socks moisture wicking?  It could be the shoes (if your shoes do not have much mesh on the sides/around your shoes).  It is getting warmer out there so your feet do tend to get pretty hot.  Look for thinner breathable running socks, this will help some.  You can tell if you need new shoes if:   1. if your ran about 300-500miles on them, 2. Outside of the soles looks wrinkly.  3. Wear and tear on the bottom of your soles.  Over time your some may still look good, but it loses its support and stability.

There are a variety of things that have been said to cause that burning or hot sensation in your feet.  I would first start with talking to your doctor or running specialty store [where ever you bought the shoes and inserts] and see if they may be contributing to the problem.   It may be due to a shoe-fit problem.  Your feet swell when you run, especially in the warmer climates and it is best to get fit for shoes after a run or at the end of the day to get the proper fit.  If that doesn't work, try wearing socks made of cotton.  We all know that cotton kills but it is possible you may be sensitive to the synthetic material in wicking socks.  Or if you wear cotton socks, try a synthetic wicking sock.  Also experiment with various sock thicknesses.

Another one for your doctor is neuroma, which has been known to cause a burning sensation in feet.  [I'm not a doc and this is way out of my area of expertise].

Lastly, friction and moisture can cause burning.  Try different combinations of shoes and socks and make sure you have plenty of space in the length and volume of your running shoes.  Try various methods of lacing your shoes.  Sometimes tight laces can cause pressure and friction which can lead to not-so-pleasant things...
