  1. In all likelihood, yes...you HAD HPV.

Sounds like you went for colposcopy where they did a biopsy of your cervix, and that showed the LSIL (Low-grade Squamous Intraepithelial Lesion) that you speak of.  This is typically a lesion that is caused by the HPV virus.  Repeat HPV testing was done on your next pap, and that came back as "normal," or NEGATIVE.  GREAT!!!

So you're probably asking....WHY?  Well, I imagine you are in your late teens to early 20s.  In this age group, we often DO find young women to have a +HPV on pap smears, however -- for some odd reason, this age group also appears to be able to eradicate the disease on their own SOMETIMES. (Not always).  You might want to call the office of the person who did your pap smear, and ask them to be sure that it said "transformation zone present" on the cytology results.  That is very important.

Now that you have come back with a normal pap, then the current guidelines suggest to just repeat your pap every 12 months, although they might want to do it one more time in 6 months before they give the "all clear" for yearly paps.

You might also want to look into getting the Gardisil injections.  I certainly recommend it to ANY of my patients who have had a history of HPV on any of their pap smears.

    Best of luck!

  2. You probably do. HPV is very very very common.

  3. Well you might have it, since that first pap was abnormal. Your body fights against hpv and you develope an immune system against it. However it will always be there and can be transmitted by skin to skin contact. Its carried in men, but men rarely ever show symptoms. Honestly I would always imform your partner, about that, or wait to have s*x until marriage. because it would not be fare to infect another woman. make sure to get your yearly check up, there are 2 kinds of hpv, ones with warts and ones that cause cancers. good luck

  4. I have hpv and I have normal paps now.  They had to go in and remove a wart in 2004 and since then all paps have been normal.
