- Im worried as, i have this rash on my leg which i think appeared after i shaved?

- but it looks similar to this image from a medical site about meningitus: http://msdadmin.scican.net/central3/newsclipart/mendisease.jpg

- The rash is on the surface (apparently meningitus doesnt go on the surface of the skin?)

- i feel PERFECTLY fine (i dont have any of the flu/ill symptoms of meningitus), just the rash is a bit ugly

  1. The haemorragic rash of meningococcal septicaemia occurs in the late stages of meningococcal meningitis. Though much publicised it is not a particularly useful test, as by the time the test is positive most patients are semi-conscious n the late stages of the disease. Since you have summited this question it is unlikely that this is your problem.

I think it more likely that this is a shaving rash!

  2.

Calm down, its a rash.  As you said it is your only symptom.

  3. I am sure you have irritation from either shaving already irritated skin or with a dull razor.

  4. Press a glass over the rash and if it doesn't disappear, then you have meningitis

If you've already done this, then wait a couple of days and if it hasn't gone got to the doctors

  5. Menigitis you mean. Spell it right!!!!!

  6. relax, its razor burn, use a moistursing lotion, itll clear up ina  few days. if you get a fever see your doc

  7. Put a glass cup over it. If it goes, it's nothing. If you can still see the spots go see your doctor now.

  8. Firstly Home Dogg - you spelt it wrong too you plum!  Secondly I don't think you don't have to have any flu symptoms to have meningitis so if I were you I'd call NHS direct just to be on the safe side as they are open 24 hours and will go through things over the phone and will advise if you need urgent medical help.  I'm sure you're absolutely fine though and it's probably a shaving rash.  You've probably just irritated the skin with the wrong shaver or allergic to the shave gel/cream.

  9. I think you do not have meningitis - as you would be really sick.

Or at the very least have a stiff neck or flu like symptoms with a fever.

The rash does worry me - if it appeared for no reason. ?

Also be cautious of a staph infection or if it gets worse and not better - this would be reason to call the MD - so keep it clean and apply some antibiotic ointment.

    ** FYI

Someone with meningitis will become very ill. The illness may progress over one or two days but it can also develop very rapidly, sometimes in a matter of hours. Most cases of meningitis start with a high fever, severe headache and neck stiffness (however neck stiffness is an uncommon symptom in young children). Vomiting and drowisness often follow. The person may complain of discomfort when looking at bright lights* (*however this is also an uncommon symptom in young children). In some cases a rash may appear.

  10. You would be very ill if you had menigitis. The rash from meningitis is blood under the skin so you would be able to tell. I think if you were that ill you wouldn't be on here cos you'd be sensitive to light. Probs just a shaving rash babe

  11. Menigtus, meninjitus, meningtus, really people the correct spelling is mnengits!!! Get it right.

  12. You have acne.

  13. roll a glass over the rash, if it dissapears as you press the glass to it, its not mengitus.

ive had meninjitus, on holiday when i was 7/8, had stiff neck, very ill, couldnt look at bright light, luckily i was taken to a greek hospital and made better, flew home a week early from holiday, not a very nice experience :(
