  1. Sorry, but you would be low priority

Duty for care is for under 16's, 0ver 60's  and pregnant women.

  2. you'd have to go to your local housing office and tell them the situation and you would be put on a housing waiting list.

you could look up your local council online and look at there website and see what there housing policy is.

  3. you have kids then yes you are, get in touch with council asap, it might take a while, our council take there time. good luck.

  4. If the Tenancy is in your name, then you stay there. The girlfriend gets out and you look after the kids and claim the benefits for them.

Let her new boyfriend find a place for her to live.

  5. You can put your name on the waiting list but you are likely to have a long wait.

If your Council allocates its housing on a points-based system you wouldn't get many points for being a single male.  You get more points for how much "in need" you are - ie having children who live with you, being pregnant, disabled or otherwise "vulnerable".  A healthy single male who doesn't have sole responsibility for children will come WAAAY down the list.

I think it also depends where you live as well.  When my partner and I were nearly made homeless through repossession in 2006, and I was 7 months pregnant, Caerphilly Council would offer us no housing at all as they said that there were no Council houses available and they are now just directing all homelessness priority need cases initially into bed and breakfast accommodation and then into privately rented housing.   On the other hand, my partner's single male best friend, who lives in Medway, Kent, got a Housing Association flat after just 1 year's wait!  He wasn't even homeless (was living with his parents).

In general, Council Housing is like Hens' Teeth these days (thanks to Maggie selling it all off) and even families with kids are finding it hard to access, so as a single man I wouldn't hold your breath.

  6. You have rights but the chances of you getting one are slim, as a single man you'd be way down the list.  They do have one bedroom flats but demand for council housing is extremely high in this country and its very hard to get, even families with kids are being turned away.

  7. A man with rights ?  In Britain ?  No - as in all areas of British life your rights are forfeit.

You are in the land of the blatantly unfair after all.

  8. Yes. They have single room council homes. As a father you may even have rights to a two bedroomed home so your kids can come and stay with you overnight when they visit. There is always quite a long waiting list - but try to get on the list as soon as you can. Who knows, you may get lucky sooner than you think. Good luck! :-)
