Do i have the right to put video cameras, flood lights and warning sign on my property for my protection?

An old lady that lives across me came with her friend and started asking me about why i have signs saying smile you are on camera and flood lights on all night and said that it was scaring her. Apparently the reflextion of the flood light is going in her house. Is this ok and do i have the right?

  1. If the light is going into her windows, then no you can't.  What you do on your property cannot interfere with someone else's use of theirs.  


  2. She has a right to enjoy her property without flood lights shining at her windows. If you want to light up your own yard fine, as long as it doesn't disturb your neighbors. They have rights too.

  3. In the US, generally - cameras and signs maybe, but you are probably violating local ordinances with the floodlights.  You don't have the right to disturb the tranquility of your neighbors with excessive lighting.


  4. You have the right to put up the signs and cameras. But if your lights are interfering with the quality of life for someone else then they have to go.
