  1. Judy is correct.  You will be required to pay sales tax when you register the vehicle.

  3. You can probably get temporary tags to get the car back to NJ, without paying sales tax.  But you'll have to pay the NJ sales tax when you go to register it there.

  4. It depends on the rules for your state and if you are honest or not, and what kind of documentation the state requires.

    If you buy a car in Ohio and live in Michigan, you do not pay Ohio sales tax, but when you transfer the title and register your car, you pay the sales tax on the car at that time.
