Do i have to pay booth rent while on maternity leave?

I am a hairstylist that is an independent contractor at a salon. I have to pay booth rent every week. When I go on maternity leave, legally, do I still have to pay booth rent? Or will I lose my chair at the salon if i do not?

I have a question to add, What if you are friends with the salon owner, and also there is not a contract? but I'm scared to hurt our relationship if I ask to not have to pay while on maternity leave?????
