For the USPS (postal) service you have to. They won't deliver it without. Especially packages.

For any delivery service you use, such as UPS/FedEx/Avery/DHL, they ask for a return address which is printed on the label. It's there in case the package cannot be delivered.

Ask the shipping service you're using.  Someone apparently has trusted you with their address.  If you were selling the item at a garage sale or by an ad in the paper, lots of people would know your address.  But the best thing to do would be to check with whatever service you are using for shipping.
