  1. It depends on the state.  Despite what others here say.  Auto insurance is not required in all USA states.  Wisconsin is one such state and there are others.  So the answer is : it depends on your state

  2. Entidtil is correct.  Wisconsin and New Hampshire do not have mandatory auto insurance laws and others do not require insurance at registration (Montana does not) go to http://www.iii.org/media/hottopics/insur...

    for the different state rules.

The insurance industry for the most part is opposed to mandatory auto insurance laws.  go to http://www.centspermilenow.org/715oppos....

  3. The Insurance comes first as the State wants to know that you are not driving uninsured.  You usually have to have proof of insurance with you to register it.  At least in my state and most are pretty much the same now.

  4. Usually, the DMV requires proof of insurance before they register but some DMVs will let you get insurance afterwards but just to be on the safe side, I would get insurance first. Good Luck

  5. You have to show proof of insurance before you can register it...so...insurance comes first.

NO DMV will register your car without proof of insurance. They will not go on good faith that you will do the right thing and get your car insured after they've registered it. Trust me...if you walk in there without your insurance card in hand, and wait in line for 30 minutes, they will NOT take pity on you and say, "Well ok, but we'll register it only if you promise to go right to your insurance agent". h**l no...they're going to say..."Come back when it's insured. We are open Monday thru Friday, 9-5".

  6. the bank rule is ......you must have that car covered with collision and fire n thief before the dealer give you the keys......this is to cover the loan.......

the dealer will transfer the title to you and the lien holder at the dealership. the insurance is your responsibility.......

it's the law, can not drive, legally upon any state highway with insurance........

  7. No, the insurance agent doesn't care if it's registered. Also, if you're a regular with a certain agent, he'll insure the car with just a phone call. Good Luck.
