Do i have to sign my car away??

i have this car i am getting rid of. it was my first car. IT DOESNT RUN!! and some guy from a junk yard is picking it up with a tow truck... i have the title. do we have to still sign papers even though it doesnt run? i dont know how this stuff works... its my first time doing this. i think i do have to sign it over, because its a new owner??? any help plz!!?

  1. Yes, but be very carefull here.  You also will be signing for the mileage.  Make sure you write the miles in the area that contains mileage and then make sure you check the correct mileage, actual mileage, over 100,000 if it a 5 digit odometer or tmu-True miles unknown.  Or if the vehicle is over 10 years old write in EXEMPT in the mileage box..  Not only are you signing off the car, you are also signing for the mileage.  If this guy writes in a number and changes the odometer, you will be on the hook for the car if the mileage is incorrect.  Also after you fill in the mileage on the title, get a copy of the title front and back.


  2. yes you have to sign the title over.  The junk yard/crusher will not take it without a clear title.

  3. Any form of ownership transfer, you must sign the title :-)
