  1. Yes

    Pre-Med (BS in Science)

    Then Take MCATS

    Medical School

Residency (5-7 years for surgery depending on what type you want to do)

  2. Yes, you most definitely will have to take the MCAT to become a surgeon.  You will also have to commit yourself to about 12 years minimum of extra schooling beyond high school!  You will first have to go to an undergraduate school and get your Bachelors Degree.  You can get a Bachelors Degree (4 years) in just about anything you want, but most students will choose a major program in the sciences- Biochemistry being most popular.  You will then take the MCAT early on in your junior year, apply to medical school, still maintaining a 3.5 on a 4.0 scale, you will be accepted to medical school, which is another 4 years, and then you will choose your specialty (surgery) and you will do about 3-5 years of residency and about 1-2 years of internship(s).  Then you will take your board licensing exam and then you can finally call yourself a surgeon.
