Do i have too many fish?

Question

i have a 10 gallon tank, and 6 fish which are small, about 1 inch (they're all full grown), and one is a pink bottom feeder which i'd say is about 1.5 in. do i have too many for a 10 gal? should i get a 20 gal? thanks!

No, that seems reasonable. With a couple exceptions.

Some fish are more active than others, and require more space.

Stocking a 10 gallon tank with 7 fish all at once will cause a huge ammonia spike. Test your water and do changes accordingly.

A 10 gallon tank needs to be cleaned often. Do a 40% or 50% water change at least once week, depending on ammonia & nitrite levels.

Generally speaking, the more space the better. In the wild, fish have nearly unlimited space to live. A 20 gallon tank would need less maintenance as well.

i think they are fine but if your fish seem as if they are bored i would syggest getting them a 20 gallon because they want more room to swim in.

No you do not have too many fish. If you had 20 that would be a problem. I also have a 10 gallon tatnk and 11 fish and 1 dwarf frog and they are all happy.

If they're full grown and only an 1 long with one being 1.5inches than you are not overstocked and you can even add another fish or two that don't get bigger than 3 inches between them.

No. The maximum for a 10gallon tank is 10 inches of fish (The rate is inch per gallon) and six fish that are 1 inch each makes 6 inches plus 1.5 inches makes 7.5 inches total. 7.5 is less than 10, so your'e good to go!

I say six fish is okay for your aquarium.  If they are big fishes, then there can be a problem.

Nope you're all good!! The rate for fish is ONE INCH per GALLON.

So if you have ten gallons, and six fish of one inch, then that should be fine.. along with your bottom feeder at one.five inches, you have about seven and a half inches..

You could add more if you wanted!
