Do i (legally) need a certificate of installation from an electrician when i install an electric oven?

Question

if not, will this affect my insurance?

I'll be getting an electrician friend to do the work

Also would i need a certificate to install some spot lights too?

You can get away with it, many people do, but, if you sell your house the new owner will want certificates for anything installed since a certain date (It might be 2002) in UK.  I suppose though you could then get a qualified electrician to certificate the whole house for you - and hope and pray everything is OK.

well i think u do need one for electric oven but not spot light

my cusin have a spot light in her room and needed no certificate

Pay the certified electrician a few hundred bucks to do it correctly.

If your house burns down your insurer may not pay -- then whom would you sue?

No, you do not need a cert. What you probably need is your simple knowledge or understanding to follow the instructions on how to install it.

I believe you only need license up to the meter past that you can work yourself as long as is done the right way.Good luck and save some money.

i just installed a new dishwasher, above the range microwave, 2 can lights, i had an electrian buddy do all the wiring......you dont need certificates

check  via the web, about the electrical codes where you live. To my understanding you don't need a cert to verify anything like that. if that was the case home depot and Lowe's would not sell electrical books and supplies to common people. with your spot lights just make sure you use what is called uf wire ( underground feeder) it is for outdoors.
