  1. In the U.S. traditionally the invitation includes only the bride and groom's names and possibly the parents' names.  Most people list the wedding party in the programs that are given to guests on the wedding day.

  2. no.....

  3. no. just the names of the bride and groom and their parents only

  4. An invitation is intended to state:

    WHO is inviting people,

    WHOM they are inviting,

    to WHAT

    WHEN, and

    WHERE

And, if necessary HOW they may respond to the invitation. That's all: anything else confuses the issue.

Nowadays, most people don't issue formal invitations very often and so get confused by the *corporate* invitations they get to commercial events, that mention sponsors and co-sponsors and celebrity spokesmen. So often wedding invitations end up name all sorts of people for fear they will feel dishonoured if not mentioned, and fail to mention little details like ... just whom the invitation is for. Since there *are* no etiquette police (alas!) you may certainly mention whomever you like on your invitation. But if you want to follow correct form, your invitation should state:

                   Mr and Mrs First Last-name

request the honour of the presence of

    <blank--you hand-write the guests names here>

                            at the wedding of

                               Brides Name

                                      to

                        Mr Firstname Lastname

at Venue on date at time o'clock

If it's your parents hosting the wedding, they can say "at the wedding of their daughter ...", and if it's the bride hosting it she can just say "at her wedding to ...".

If you are going to use inner and outer envelopes both, then you can get away with writing "request the honour of your company" and write the guests' names on the inner envelope instead of on the invitation, although doing so is a modern compromise.

You can name the bridal party in your wedding programme if you decide to have one printed

  5. not usually....you save that information for the people who can actually attend your ceremony. That's where programmes come in if you are going to use them.

  6. there is a good website for invitations at http://www.eventphotocards.com

  7. No. You can list their names on the programs that are handed out during the ceremony.

  8. NO, not on your invitations.

The invitation has the name of the bride and groom, of course, and sometimes the parents...but not the names of the bridesmaids and groomsmen.

If you choose to do wedding programs, then that is the place to include the names of those in your wedding party.

  9. Usually you just add the names of the bridal party on the wedding programs; not the invitations.

However, my friends sister is getting married. In their culture they have lots of godparents, veil sponsors, etc. so they included an additional slip in the wedding invitation listing the bridesmaid, groomsmen, flowergirls, ring bearers, godparents, veil sponsors, etc.

It was the first time I had ever seen that done with the invitations - but that is common in their culture.
