  1. well

5400 rpm pertains to the speed of the drive, we need more info

  2. whoa. back up partner.

    seriously. listen to me.

if you have no idea what you are doing, DON'T do it!!

I have a PS3 and it is a BEAUTIFUL piece of machinery; don't **** it up by ripping it open and trying to install something that was not made for it in the first place. seriously.

think back to all the 360's that got modded...not only did they void their warranty after they opened them, but nearly 100% of them experienced the much talked about (and even lesser understood) "red ring of death". yes, these are two different systems, but you still have no idea what you are doing if you need step-by-step instructions, and you are reffering to your hardware you want to install as a "thing"... do you want to potentially s***w up your system, and make it forever unplayable?? Think long and hard about what your potentially about to do. I have a first generation 60 gig PS3, which I waited out in line for (i was one of those proud, yet crazy people camping in front of a store on the release date!) and I LOVE IT. it is nearly a member of my family. I am very proud of it, and I would NEVER tamper with it like that, no way. it is beautiful the way God made it!! (or at least had the guys at Sony make it!) Trust me!! okay? yes, you *might* be able to find someone who will offer to do it for you, for a price, but they aren't going to fully understand what they are doing either, they cannot, unless they work for the Sony Corporation, you follow me? And if they s***w up your system, they will not offer you anything but up turned palms and say "sorry man, that sucks..."

don't become a statistic and brick your system.

  3. Well seeing as how a 40GB 5400 RPM drive is the same drive that is already in a 40GB ps3 you will definitely lose all your information and at no gain. Unless your current HDD is dead, in which case most of your info is gone anyway.

It would be wiser for you to buy a larger drive and an external USB SATA HDD enclosure that would turn your current HDD into an external Hard Drive that could be plugged into your ps3, allowing you to access all of your old information and transfer it onto the newer larger internal HDD.
