Do i loose my permanent resident if i apply to settle in the uk?

I'm US permanent resident I sent my citizenchip application can I go out of the country to get marry with my boyfriend in london with a fiance visa. If I apply for a settlement do i loose permanent resident or will affect my application

  1. I don't think you can apply for settlement right away, I think you just get a work permit for 2 years but you still don't qualify to be a permanent resident in the US while you are living in and planning to settle in the UK.  When you have a US green card, they do expect you to be living in the US.  Of course it also depends on if they find out.

    Applying for citizenship, as long as you have an address and somebody will let you know, if they are anything like immigration Canada, they will send you stuff with 2 weeks notice and expect you to be there for test, for oath etc. at that time so you might have to make a couple of swift trips to the US if you want your citizenship to go through.


  2. if you move to the UK for more than 6 months, then YES you will lose your USA permanent residency status (green card status).
