Do i need a converter/transformer when traveling from america to ireland??

Question

ireland uses a higher voltage (220) than america. the only electronics i would be plugging in are my ipod, digital camera, and cell phone.

Yes Virginia, you'll need an adaptor to convert the different AC to the DC your stuff uses. Easily availble.

Check your power supply info.  If it reads 100V to 240V you are OK.  You'll only need a conversion plug (different pins).  ~

The standard voltage in  Ireland is 220 VAC at 50Hz. Plugs are 3 pin 1363 type. Most shaving sockets also support 110 VAC with the 2 pin international shaving plug. Many hotel rooms provide hair dryers. The voltage in Northern Ireland is 230/240 VAC 50Hz.

Just adding to the others, in Ireland we use 13 amp 3 (square) pin plug-tops and sockets. You could change your plug-tops or buy an adapter before you travel as well as checking your voltage. Some appliances have a small window where the voltage can be changed.

Ohh lord this gave us a bit of trouble as well. You definately need an adapter, because the plugs are different shaped, so the adapter allows you to plug your appliance into the adapter, and then the adapter has the correct prongs for their walls. You'll have to check your appliance, most appliances have been updated to have a voltage of 220, check your appliances, if the voltage is less, lets' say 125v then thats when you will need the converter/transformer to change the voltage. We travelled last fall to Ireland and Scotland, we went to Business Depot and bought a kit there for 40.00 and I think we only needed the transformer on my flat iron but only needed the adapter for my husbands shaver

Depending on the voltage on your appliance, if thevoltage is between 140 and 220, it will work. But, you will need a three pin adapter. you can easily get these in shops and even the airport.
