  1. you need both and a server who has  HD avalible

  2. Yes because tvs have HDMI connections and that the main way to connect something HD(blu ray, sky hd, virgin hd, freesat) into it

  3. u can just buy a HD box and there is coupons for it.

    here: https://www.dtv2009.gov/

  4. The down and dirty: you need three things to get high definition on your television:

    1) You need to have a TV that can display HD.

    2) You need to have a signal coming in that is HD (satellite, cable, or even over-the-air HD signal).

    3) You have to have a good cable to provide the high-quality  signal. Basic coaxial doesn't really work unless you're getting an over-the-air digital signal. For cable and satellite, you have to have an HDMI cable. (Component cable, which is red, blue, and green, won't provide true HD, though it's much better than the ones below it, like coaxial, S-video, etc.)

  5. you need both to get hd. You need a cable box that supports HD, you'll have to buy HD channels, then you'll need an HDTV to watch the hd shows.

Ya, its a lot of money but totally worth it

  6. Yes you need and HD TV. and HD box is probably also required if you want the HD channels. i know for time warner cable you ahve to get a special HD box and an HD TV to get the HD channels. TWC offers the channels free, but most other providers charge :). hope i helped

  7. yup

  8. stephen is right because my friend got an HD receiver but had an old box tv from the early 90s and it worked. It improved the picture quality, but i suggest getting an HD tv to make the quality even better, it is amazing it sometimes looks like you are right there.

  9. No you don't need a HDTV to receive HD channels.

HD TV signals can be cheaply converted into plain old analog TV signals.

That's what your cable box is doing. And if you were getting TV broadcasts over the air you could connect a cheap coupon type converter between your antenna and TV to convert digital broadcasts to the old analog type.

The "HD" just means that the signal just has more picture information in it than non-HD ones. When the signal is converted, the extra picture detail is just thrown away and a "DVD like quality" analog signal is sent to the TV.

If you  wanted to see all the picture resolution, then you would have to buy a HDTV to see it.
