  1. you need a hdtv and hdtv  tv service too

  2. The HD part in hdtv means use for hd.

  3. Yes and yes

  4. Yes you 100% need it .As you might be knowing that we call LCDs as LCD HDTV. If you dont need HDTV then why cant your TV is also called HDTV.Thats because your TV is a normal TV and not HDTV and you need it. Hpoe you get the point .

  5. Yeah, of course you do!

  6. >do i need a hdtv to see hd?

No you don't need a HDTV to see HD programing.

The reason is that digital TV signals (including "HD" ones)  can be cheaply converted to the old analog type that your TV can understand.

When the signal is converted the extra picture information that is sent in the HD signal is thrown away, and all that is left is a DVD like quality analog signal. That's good enough for a lot of people.

Unless you also have a HDTV on the same account, it's not clear way you would want to pay extra for HD service. All Direct TV satellite signals are digital, always have been. When converted to analog, HD and SD signal will look the same since the extra HD picture information is thrown away in the process of converting them to analog.

Below you will find a description for a DirectTV HD receiver. Noticed that it has S-video and composite outputs. These are always SD analog. In other words, Direct TV includes a digital to analog converter in the receiver.

The same thing is true of HD over the air broadcasts. Even the cheapest coupon type converter can receive all digital over the air broadcasts and convert them to the old analog type signals.
