  1. I'm not sure what country you're from. But here in the US, you don't need any license at all.  Some ranges in the US even offer free intro/safety class and free use of our equipment for life after you take the class.  So if you are in the US, head on over to the NAA website, www.usarchery.org and find those ranges.

  2. I have never heard of anyone having to get a "special license" to do archery.... Do like targetbutt says, go to

    http://www.nfaa-archery.org/

    or

    http://www.usarchery.org/

    Or go to

    http://sca.org/geography/welcome.html

and find the group for your part of the world (or U.S., if that's your home country). Click the link for the appropriate website and look for the sub-group(s) for your immediate area and surf around until you find the "Archery Marshal", "Captain of Archers" (or similar title) for your immediate area. The SCA is a great place to learn archery, and is extremely safe as well. I have never heard of anyone being shot by an arrow, at least not in the SCA.......not even some of the people (non-participants) who are stupid enough to wander behind the target areas during an archery tournament.

On the other hand -- I suspect that your mother is concerned about your safety. Have her look these websites over with you, so she can see for herself what kind of safety measures are used.
