Ok so i've had some really bad experiences with our DMV and am having trouble getting my license. I want to buy a electric scooter. It has pedals, looks like a moped, and only goes 20MPH. Do i need a license to drive it? The missouri DMV website says i do, but i saw a 12 year old kid driving one, which makes me think differently. I live in town only a mile from work, and only have one short road to go down before i can just cross parking lots. Can i get away with it?

  1. I don't think so. I could be wrong so don't take my word for it.

  2. You do, if it is street legal.  If it is not street legal, then you are breaking the law by driving it on any public street, which is often the case.  Seeing a 12 year old doing this shouldn't make you think differently.  It should make you realize that there are a lot of idiot parents out there who let 12 year olds do anything they want.

I'm not sure why you asked this question.  If the DMV says you need a license, then nothing that anyone says here can change that.

Can you get away with it?  Yes.  Absolutely.  The 12 year old is getting away with it.  If you are older, though, you stand a chance of facing fines and/or not being able to get a license for a long time if you get caught.

  3. My neighbor just got one last week and he said that if the scooter is 50cc of less you dont need a license...nor do you need insurance.  But you can't take it on the highway either...
