Do i need a new passport when i turn 18?

my old one doesnt expire till 2011, but im going to africa next year and my mom says i need a new UK passport as i'll officially be an "adult"

your passport is valid until it expires. you might want to bring a couple of new passport photos just in case, although it is so not necessary.

No, your passport is valid until it expires in 2011 - you do NOT need a new passport just because you're turning 18.
