Do i need a new stereo head to put in a sub and amp?

I drive a 2002 dodge durango and have a amp and sub i was just ondering if i could use the radio i have of if i need to buy a new one?

  1. Most amps only have RCA inputs. And almost all stock stereos don't have RCA outputs. So yeah, you most likely will need to buy a new head unit.

    Some amps have high level inputs. That where you wire your rear speakers through the amp. I have never done cause it seems like a lot of work and cause my head unit had RCA outs anyways.


  2. yes if you have a factory radio you can install a amp but you will have to get a line out converter or if your amp has this feature hook the speaker wires directly to the amp

  3. It depends if your head that you have now has rca hookups in the back of it they are red and white they are used to send a signal to the amp if you dont go buy a radio with rca hook ups

  4. You can still use your factory radio. I know some are full of features. Check out Crutchfield.com
