  1. You simply need to read the law for yourself.  See site below.

  2. Get one you'll need it

  3. I live in Windsor, Ontario, and cross the Windsor-Detroit border all the time.

The following are the requirement for a LAND crossing, which is what you are doing.

    You need:

    (1) valid government issued photo ID, such as your driver's licence, and

    (2)  your original birth certificate.

Not one or the other, but both.

The requirement for a passport for LAND travel (you presently do need one if you are flying from an U.S. city into Canada) has been postponed until at least June, 2009.  While a passport is always preferable, you don't need one until that time.

I also work at the casino in Windsor and have daily contact with U.S citizens crossing over to gamble and I know for a fact many cross over without a passport at this time.

  4. No you do not need a passport to drive into Canada. You will need some form of government issued photo id(drivers license) and your original birth certificate for proof of citizenship.

It has been pushed back until June 1/2009

It is always best now to use a passport but like I mentioned above you are not required to have one for LAND travel as of yet!

  5. If you need to find out the true answer, you should go to the government website and get the correct information.  You could have searched on Yahoo and found the info in the time it took to post this question!

Would I travel relying only on info I got off Yahoo Answers?  Absolutely NOT!!!  Neither should YOU!

  6. As of Dec 21, 2007, passport requirements have been once again delayed meaning that US citizens arriving in Canada by land or water do not need a passport until at least summer 2009.
