You need a passport if you are FLYING.  Passports will not be needed for LAND or SEA ravel to and from Mexico until after SUMMER 2008.  See website below and read the top half of the page carefully for the CURRENT info.  If you go to Mexico with your child and without the father, you must have a signed, notarized letter from the father giving you permission to take the child to Mexico.  When you do get passports, the baby will need one too, and the passport application requires signature of both parents.  See website below and read the section on "Minors" under "Important New Information."
