  1. not if you're driving. You do if you are flying into Mexico

  2. Not yet, but as of January we will.

  3. I forgot to mention that you DO need a certified copy of your birth certificate- not notarized- but certified from your State of birth. Oregon charges $12 to get one if you were born here and do not have a certified copy. If you need one call the Bureau of Vital Statistics in the state you were born in. They will give you all the details.

  4. si mamisita

  5. earlier this year, a law was passed that you have to have passport ID to go to mexico and canada.

  6. no...atleast not yet...

  7. Not if you are American. I got back with my drivers license provided you walk across the border which I recommend.

  8. If you fly, then yes you will.  If you drive or walk into Mexico, then no you don't.  I believe all you need right now is your driver's license.

If you're from another country, you might need your passport from your country of origin.  Contact a U.S. Embassy in regards to that.

By January 31, 2008, you will need your American birth certificate and your driver's license.  Sometime during the summer of 2008 (with at least 60 days notice), then you will be required to have a passport. (the first link--which is the official government website).

The second link indicates where Congress is pushing to move the date up to June of 2009.  The third link is about President Bush signing the $555 billion dollar spending bill that might have included that.  Contact your senator about that.

The fourth link is just in case you decide to drive into Mexico.  You have to pay a bond (which you'll get back as long as you keep your receipt).

The fifth link is just a real cool link to know about things you should know about Mexico (including Mexico laws, tourist visas, and Mexican car insurance).

  9. Anywhere out of the good ole USA you need that passport.

Go to the Post Office, fill out the application, get a pix taken it takes 6-8weeks for processing but if you pay extra it can be expedited. More info at:

Here is the quote for those who think I am wrong it is the 28th:

Under new government regulations, by Dec. 31, travelers to and from the Caribbean, Mexico and Canada — plus Bermuda and Panama — will be required to have a passport to enter or re-enter the United States.

A year later, on Dec. 31, 2007, the requirement will be extended to all land-based border crossings as well.
