"ncohio" is correct.  paasports are not yet needed to travel to and from Mexico by LAND ..You need a photo I.D. and birth certificate.  See site below and read carefully.

I went to Tijuana last month from San Diego.  All we needed was a birth certificate and driver's license.

You dear have to take with you your birth certificate and some ID. Good luck here, keep your bag safe if you visit our "famous city center" that actually we tj`s dont visit, unleast we need to go to the dentist or to the hall. We dont even visit revolution´s street "discoteques".
