Question:

Do i need a permit for a skate ramp?

Iv started to build this ramp and its getting pretty huge..only 3 feet high but 30+ feet long and 12 feet wide....its visible in my yard and idk if i need a permit for this..i live i maryland and my neibors probably wont complain..should i finish it or stop and tear it down?

  1. Hi RnR,

    Local codes are different for each area, but if it isn't a permanent structure (i.e., no footers or rebar tying it to the ground, or bolts, screws, nails attaching it to an existing structure, like a house) a permit usually isn't necessary in my neck of the woods.


  2. Glenn B was on the right track, but it doesn't matter if you charge others to use it or not. It is considered an "attractive nuisance" and if someone gets hurt on it, your parents are responsible for cost of injuries.

  3. The only thing I would  be concerned about is who is liable for injuries?  I am sure your parents don't want the responsibility.  Something will happen, it always does.  Just don't charge and don't look for a permit.  I would check with your 'rents and see what they want to do.  better  to be safe than sorry.
