  1. Depends if your going self employed as a sub-contractor on site or setting up a small firm for domestic jobs. You'll find that most plumbers on site are self employed working as sub-contractors for major firms. In terms of qualifications to work on site as a self employed sub-contractor you need your S/NVQ Level 2 (2 years at College), Level 3 is pretty pointless. If you want to go domestic then it doesnt matter what qualifications you've got, your just more likely to pick up work with higher qualifications. If your working with gas you need to pass your ASC and become CORGI registered.
