  1. FYI, WHETHER YOU NEED ONE OR NOT DEPENDS ON WHAT THE X-RAY SHOWS. IF THE CAVITY IS VERY CLOSE TO THE NERVE THEN  A ROOT CANAL IS INEVITABLE.

  2. no u just need a filling

  3. It depends if the nerves are exposed or not, if they are not then a filing will sort it. If they are, and you dont have root canal, you will know because it will be extremely sensitive whenever you eat hot/cold food. Might be better off getting the tooth pulled if the cavity is too bad, trust me, pulling a tooth is much more painless than root canal!! Good luck and be brave!

  4. umm i would definetly call a local dentist cuz you never know if this is serious or not :]

    you will be fine

root canals might seem scary but you can always ask if you can sleep during the root canal

  5. The only person who can answer this question is your dentist.  The amount of pain is inconsequential to whether or not you will need a root canal.  According to my dentist, you said that when she did a root canal on me, that she was just going to have to drill deeper.

  6. The absence of pain does not really mean anything. It is common for teeth to need root canals even if there aren't any symptoms. On the other hand, if the tooth does start to hurt, you most likely will need a root canal.

Whether or not you need a root canal will be determined by your tooth when the decay is removed.  Sometimes it can be determined by looking at an xray or by your symptoms, but sometimes the dentist just needs to remove the decay, and if the decay has progressed into the nerve, you'll need a root canal.  If not, you won't.

A root canal is when the dentist removes the nerves from the tooth, cleans out the canals that confine the nerves, and fill them up so they don't get reinfected. The tooth will normally need to be crowned after this (if it is a back tooth) because after teeth have had root canals, they are much more brittle and are at a much higher risk of fracture.

They sound bad, but you will be anesthetized for the procedure so it shouldn't hurt.  They sometimes do take a bit longer than filling appointments, but other than that, you should be fine.
