I fell and hit my tooth when I was 10..since then my front tooth has darkened and most ppl say I have a dead tooth. I was planning to go to get porcelain veneers. But someone told I would have to get a root canal on top of the veneers!!! I'm paying cash for all of the procedures..Is it really true that if you have a dead tooth..u need a root canal to SAVE the root (and to prevent from falling off later)??? or can i just get the veneers to cover it?

  1. If your tooth is grey or dark the nerve is dead.  Bacteria is leaking into the nerve chamber and causing the discoloration.  Whoever is doing your veneers should know this by a x-ray. The tooth may be abscessed even become loose if not treated.  You can still have a veneer done, and the root canal after.  Another way to go with out a veneer is have the root canal done and after do a internal bleaching to get rid of the dark tooth.  You may even be happier with that result.

  2. root canals are really a waste of time if you are getting anything done. if you are worried about putting on a veneer over a dead tooth then find out about an implant. probably your best money wise.

  3. Bleaching won't work!!  RT canal  & crown  or implant will work!1   Doc W
