Do i need a second battery or something for my subwoofer? like a batcap for a 4000 watt system?

i have an audiobahn sub that is 4000 watts. do i need another battery to power it. also i am wondering if a batcap would also work?

The sub doesnt draw the current the amp does. Your amp depends on current draw so go by how many watts your amp is and your power wire probably won't even be able to carry the current I doubt you using 0 or 00 gauge wire. For the average system you should be ok though as long as you don't just leave the key on and play the system without the car running.

The only thing adding a second battery will do for you (other than looking cool to those who don't know what going on) is let you play your music longer while the car isn't running.

If you're planning on running 4000 watts than you will definitely need to upgrade your alternator and battery. The average alternator is only capable of putting out about 75 amps max and at 14.4volts thats 1080 watts continuous and if you pull more than that for longer periods of time then you will burn out your alternator and your battery will die.

Along with the new battery and alternator you will need to be able to get that power from you battery to the amp some how. 0 awg wire. and thats expensive.

So now you have new battery, alternator and 20 feet of 0 awg wire. your now gonna need a capacitor, but how much you ask? The rule of thumb is 1 farad for every 1000 watts you plan on putting out. so for 4000 watts that 4 farads of caps.

As you can see this is obviously getting expensive and i could go on but ill leave it at this for now as something to think about.

Anyone can buy a 4000watt sub or amp, but getting all that power is a real test.

well it all depends. what kind of hardware are we looking at? well the more space and memory it holds i'd say you would probably need 2 but only on some occassions like if it is bi=urning to quickly in some cases that does happen. the more energy it exerts the more power it uses and that kills the battery. so not 2 i would say you need 3
