just had a quick question about my amp install. I just put it in and it has a 50 amp in-line fuse and a 40 amp fuse in the amp is this okay?

  1. you want the inline fuse to blow before the amp fuse blows.  circuits in your amp can be damaged before the amp fuse blows--it is the LAST line of defense.  i would change the inline to a 40 amp fuse.

  2. yes, some amps come with a fuse in the amp.

This will usually blow before the inline fuse, which prevents damage to the amp. The inline fuse is there as a backup in case there is a short before the amp (power wiring touching a ground), when amp is off, as some amps have a celonid relay the connect the power source when the remote wire has power.

  3. Yes.

The 40 amp fuse is probably protecting the output stages of the amplifier.

The 50 amp fuse is protect the car.

Make sure your wires are big enough, or the wires will be the limiting factor, and will heat up, possibly causing a fire.

  4. It's absolutely no problem at all.

The purpose of the 50-amp fuse is to protect the wire between the battery and the amplifier.  If you have a short circuit somewhere in the wire run, it could cause a fire unless you have a fuse near the battery.  The size of the fuse in the amplifier isn't relevant to the size of the power line fuse; they have completely different functions.

As long as your fuse is the correct size to protect your wire effectively (it should be fine for 8-gauge wire or larger) then it doesn't hurt a thing that it's larger than the amplifier fuse.  There's absolutely nothing to gain from changing it.

  5. It's usually best to get as close to the rating of the amp without going over. 50 probably won't hurt anything. But, I'd replace it with a 40 as soon as you can. I personally use 5 to 10 amps less than amp in the inline.

Also, Don't listen to the people who tell you that a 100 amp fuse will make it sound better(There are a lot of them on here. They're idiots.). That fuse is the first line of defense if something goes wrong with your wiring.

  6. seems silly... if you have a 50 amp inline fuse and a 40 amp integrated fuse, which one will blow first??? the 40 amp fuse will blow first making the 50 amp fuse absolutely worthless... i honestly don't see the need for two fuses, either switch your inline fuse to a 30 amp or get rid of it all together

  7. heres the way I look at it.. your inline fuse is the first fuse a bad signal would get to right.. so always make that fuse smaller because its way easier and cheaper to replace a inline fuse then a main bus fuse or a fuse in your actual amp.. You actually have like 4fuses running.. it goes from your Inline, to your Bus, to your reciever, then to your amp but when running subs iy bypasses the reciever fuse.. either way I personally like to have a smaller fuse in the inline holder just so it will pop that one instead of a main fuse...fuse is just a split in the wire with a piece of metal and when a bad current gets by it pops that piece of metal stopping all current in the wire.. so I would go smaller then your main fuse.. now your amp can vary.. Some amps have two 35amp fuse and some have like 3 25amp fuses.. dont worry about that so much.. A good fuse to go with on an inline is about 30-40  I run a total power of 2600watts peak and 1300rms and I dont pop my inline fuse.. so I would run with a 40amp
