  1. if you are a uk haulier then you should know the answer ! your still on the road, driving an hgv i take it???  then u use a tachograph, either analogue if its fitted or tachocard if its digi

  2. Unless you are part of the military and the truck is also a military truck you will need a tachograph. This is because it is a commercial vehicle, and you are using it for commercial purposes. At any point you could be stopped by the police whom may ask to inspect the tacho & if you don't have one there is a good chance that both you and your employer will get a hefty fine (and possibly points for you!)

  3. By law, every UK haulage company must have a designated Transport Manager who holds a Certificate of Professional Competence. Basic questions such as tachograph usage and exemptions are part of the examination for this Certificate.

As a holder of a Certificate of Professional Competence for International Haulage operations, I am very concerned that this question needs to be posed at all.

If the questionner cares to let me know his Operators Licence number, then I will ensure that his premises are visited by the Enforcement Section of VOSA.

  4. What u haul is irrelavent!  Its the size/weight of vehicle & whether its used for business that counts.

The idea of the tachograph is to monitor & protect workers from working long hours & becoming dangerous through exhaustion as it records each stop & length of each journey

  5. You do not make the point about your business having an Operators Licence, I assume you do ? And, yes you are not exempt from the requirements of using the tacho, if you fail to do so, you will be in the sewage in more ways then one !!

  6. a tachograph has nothing to do with what you haul it is to do with the houres worked

  7. VOSA's exemption for sewage is in relation to agricultural tractors, and if your lorry is empty, it would be irrelevant anyway.

You do need a tachograph card in at all times.
