if your flying you only need a photo ID ...well thats to fly from ireland to the UK ... so im guessing its the same the other way around!

If your flying, you will prob need a passport for passport control.

if you are travelling by ferry you wont need one.

UK Immigration do not require a passport for those coming from Ireland, but may ask for some photo ID such as a driving licence.

However most airlines now demand a passport, even though Immigration do not. So if you have no passport you will have to use the ferry.

I'm guessing you have to be British, if so please beware......They're all a bit mad and proud in 'southern' Ireland, sure Cork thinks its the real capital, so god knows what they could ask you for. However, if you plan to visit those exotic places call the East, or possible the West of Ireland, than if you have your passport bring it, if not, check with your airline, they might accept a drivers licence

You don't say what nationality you are, but I would think that it's safest to travel with a passport, as you are more likely to be quizzed as to your identity and travel intentions on both sides of the Irish Sea if you rely on other forms of ID.
