  1. You do not need a visa to travel to Mexico for up to 180 days as a tourist.  You just get a tourist card on the plane or at the border.  The cost is about $22.00USD. You cannot work for money while in Mexico as a tourist.  If you are going on a mission, I presume you are going with a group or for an organization which should take care of making all arrangements for you.  I do not know if there are any special permits or requirements for people who come to Mexico on a mission...especially if it is a religious mission, but there are none I know of and the immigration website which has all visa info does not list any.  Your organization should have this information.  you could also contact the nearest Mexican consulate.  See list below.

  2. I hope you're not talking of any religious mission, then, specially if you're a foreign you can get yourself imprissoned.

If you're Catholic it will be all right, but if you're not, I would strongly recomend you and your friend not to come to my country, in some towns missionaries who preech sects have been killed and it's forbidden to teach religion in Mexico; therefore you can get in trouble with Mexican authorities.

  3. you will need a tourist permit that you can obtain at the border or on an airplane.  they can be good for up to 6 months.  just make sure to write on the permit how long you will be there, or just put the 180 days so your covered for the 6 months no matter what
