Question:

Do i need a visa for the PI?

A US Citizen can visit the Pilippines for 21 days without a visa. The maximum length of stay which is extendable with immigration authorities in the PI is 59 days. I plan to be in the PI for aproximately 45 days and plan to be married the 3rd day of my visit. From what I have seen I will then be a dual citizen but I believe I have to apply for that citizenship with the Immigrations Authorities and I don't know how long it might take. Do I need to obtain a Visa before I travel? Thank-You in advance.

  1. marriage to a filipino does not automatically make you a philippine citizen. i think you have to wait 2-3 years before you can apply to become one.

  2. This is from the Consular Information Sheet at travel.state.gov:

ENTRY/EXIT REQUIREMENTS:  U.S. citizens may enter the Philippines without a visa upon presentation of their U.S. passport, valid for at least six months after the date of entry into the Philippines, and a return ticket to the United States or an onward ticket to another country.  Upon arrival immigration authorities will annotate your passport with an entry visa valid for 21 days.  If you plan to stay longer than 21 days you must apply for an extension at the Philippine Bureau of Immigration and Deportation's main office at Magallanes Drive; Intramuros, Manila, Philippines, or at any of its provincial offices (http://www.immigration.gov.ph).
