Do i need an ID for train?

im leaving in a few weeks and i dont think ill be able to provide an ID because theres stuff that they have to send me in order to get one. i didnt have a certified birth certifercate. im 17, so would i need to provide one if im aboarding a train alone? im traveling from CA to ND.

  1. Actually, the Amtrak train I was on most recently, the AutoTrain, definitely checked photo id's at the check-in counter.  That's not to say that they do on all routes, but they have the right to ask for one.

    Do you have a high-school identification card, even if it doesn't have a photo?  Or a driver's license?  (Don't all 17 year olds in California drive?  ha.)

    As a minor traveling alone, there could be problems if you don't have an id and you don't have an adult parent or guardian helping you to check in.  For all Amtrak knows, you're a run-away or an illegal immigrant.
