Do i need an amp or can i use stock wiring?

i want to buy a 6x9 speakers and a component 6 1/2 speaker, can i use stock wiring to play them,

  1. you can use the stock wiring but if the speakers require more than about 35watts RMS your radios internal amplifier does not have the power to properly push them so as you get the volume towards halfway and higher they will start to sound distorted from a lack of wattage (distortion is the main cause of speaker damage)

    if they are going to be powered by the radio and you have no plans to add an amp in the future then try not to exceed the 35watts RMS requirement and look for some that have a high sensitivity

    A speaker with a sensitivity rating that's 3 dB higher than another speaker's only needs half as much power to deliver the same amount of sound.


  2. yes unless you want to max them out to there best quality then i suggest an amp

  3. As long as you're only using the head unit's power you'll be fine.  Otherwise, you'll have to run some new wiring anyway, so you might as well run it straight to the new speakers.
