  1. In the Republic AND in Northern Ireland you will need planning permission.

  2. If the log cabin is a preexisting structure you will not need planning permission. If you are intending on buying a site and building a log cabin, then you will definitely need planning permission. Also, if you have not been resident in the area you are planning on building in, you will have little chance of securing planning permission as it can be difficult to obtain even for native Irish people. It's not a very efficiently run process and people complain about it all the time. I would advise you to call the County Council representing the County you are planning on moving to. They will be able to tell you if it is even worth your while making an application. Here is a good website with lots of useful information.

  3. yea u need planning permission for everything tip try eastern europe for cheapest option

  4. You need planning permission to create a 1m x 1m slab of concrete - so yes any structure requires planning permission.

For private individuals, seeking PP for a single dwelling on land they own, the process is expensive and long-drawn out.  If you are a developer, however, the process is fast, cheap and full of loopholes.

  5. Yes you will need planning permission...in fact you need planning permission for almost anything to do with building work.. make sure you check out everything before you decide on anything.

  6. I don't know, but I once knew an Irishman who bought a paper shop but it blew away in the wind.........LOL!
