  1. Yes, you can live in Canada but you do need a visa.  If you are planning to stay a while, get permanent residency, the provincial nominee program is by far the fastest way but you would need a job offer and you would need to be in a certain line of work of the most wanted.  Check out http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/immigrate/p...

Otherwise you can see if you have enough points to apply as a skilled worker, takes way longer but you would have permanent status as soon as you arrive.  For that, go to http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/immigrate/s...

Otherwise, you can go for a temporary work permit but depending on your skill level, that may not give you the right to apply for permanent resident status.

  2. you need to apply to immigrate just like anyone else

as a UK citizen you can VISIT for 6 months without a visa but to live in Canada you must go through the immigration process

  3. Yes you need a residency permit, either permanent or temporary if you intend to live in Canada rather than visit.

  4. If you want to live in Canada then yes, you do need to obtain legal residence.  If you want to live and work in Canada it is best if you get permanent resident status.  You can do this in several ways however you must see in what way you would qualify.

The Citizenship and Immigrations Canada website will get you familiar with the different immigration classes and you can take it from there.  www.cic.gc.ca
